Poople word checker
Check a four-letter word
See whether Poople accepts the word, how many moves it takes to reach POOP, and one shortest route.
Why Poople may reject a word
The figures below describe the accepted word list, not rejected guesses or player behavior.
The game checks an exact word list
Poople does not accept every spelling that appears in a general English dictionary. A candidate has to match an entry in the word list used by the puzzle. The checker applies that same membership rule to the exact four-letter spelling you enter. Capitalization is ignored, but extra letters, missing letters, spaces inside the word, and punctuation do not become a different accepted word.
This explains why a word can look familiar and still fail the check. English has regional spellings, inflected forms, abbreviations, names, and specialist terms. The game list includes only its selected entries, so knowing that a form exists somewhere in English does not tell you whether this puzzle accepts it. The checker answers the narrower, practical question: is this spelling in the current Poople list?
A final S does not decide acceptance
Plural-looking words and other S-ending forms are not governed by a blanket rule. Some are present in the accepted list and others are not. The current list contains 2,398 accepted entries. 505 of them end in S. This counts spellings, not parts of speech: the list does not label which entries are nouns, verbs, or plurals. A final S is therefore a clue about spelling, not a reliable yes-or-no test for whether a word will work in the game.
The available project data contains the accepted list, not a record of every rejected guess. It can show how many accepted entries end in S, but it cannot rank which suffix or word type players most often submit and get rejected. We avoid presenting a frequency claim without those rejected-word records. For a specific plural or verb form, check the exact spelling instead of relying on a grammar rule.
Names, abbreviations, and word forms
Proper nouns are not classified separately by this tool. The checker does not decide whether an entry is a name, a place, a brand, or a common noun; it checks membership in the game list. Capital letters do not turn a missing word into an accepted one, and lower-case input is checked the same way as upper-case input.
The same limit applies to abbreviations, alternate spellings, and grammatical forms. If the precise four-letter form is absent, the checker reports it as not found even when a related word is familiar. The three suggestions are spelling neighbors chosen from the accepted list. They are not definitions, synonyms, or replacements chosen by meaning, so read them as nearby spellings rather than equivalent words.
What the result tells you
For an accepted word, the checker reports the fewest one-letter changes needed to reach POOP and displays one route with that minimum number of moves. A move is one change between adjacent words. When multiple routes tie for shortest, the result still shows one valid example; the solver can report the tied route count and let you explore the ladder.
For a word outside the list, the checker shows three accepted spellings with the fewest letter positions changed from your input. Ties are ordered alphabetically so the same input gives a stable result. This similarity is based only on the four character positions. It does not measure pronunciation, meaning, spelling history, or how likely the game is to accept another form.
The checker validates the entered word in your browser. It does not display or download the full accepted list. To play through a route or try another starting point, open the solver with the accepted word. The solver uses the same word graph and can show the shortest ladder for that exact start.

Poople word checker questions
How list membership, routes, and close suggestions work.
Does the checker include every English word?
No. It checks the current four-letter list used by Poople. Words in a general dictionary may be missing, and this page does not publish the complete list.
Are plural words always rejected?
No single suffix decides acceptance. The current list includes entries that end in S, but that spelling count does not classify every entry as a plural. Check the exact word.
How are the three closest words selected?
The checker counts how many of the four letter positions differ from each accepted word. It shows the three smallest distances, with alphabetical ordering for ties. Similar spelling does not mean similar meaning.
Can I use the shortest route in the solver?
Yes. After an accepted word is checked, use the solver link to open that word as the starting point and view the shortest ladder to POOP.
